As a licensed General Contractor Spacesaver Specialists offers full design - build space saving services.  Since the very beginning our ongoing operating philosophy has been to assist end users in developing efficient, cost effective space utilization solutions at no out-of-pocket cost to our clients.  The best result happens when we are involved at a very early stage in a project cycle.  Whether the project is funded or not.

Spacesaver Specialists entered the Portland business scene in mid 1978.  Bob and Beverly Bowlsby had acquired the remaining assets of a small, struggling building products company.  The only significant asset was the contractual right to represent Spacesaver Corporation in Oregon and Clark County Washington.  They also acquired a significant debt load.

 

The Bowlsby business adventure began from a sub leased 9’x9’ office space at the Oregon Dairy Council Building on Barbur Blvd.  Bob sold, installed and serviced Spacesaver storage equipment while Bev worked the phones and general office administration.  It took 13 months to pay all creditors and another five years before Jim McCord (current President) became the first full time employee.

By 1990 the staff grew to five full time employees, plus Bob and Bev.  Current full-time headcount is 16 including sales, installation, service and administrative staff.  Seven of the sixteen have been with Spacesaver Specialists more than 20 years.

 

Growth in business and people created workspace challenges.  After 15 years operating out of leased space near Washington Square the company moved to their new 30,000 square foot Spacesaver Business Center in Tualatin in 2001.
